Supervise daily accounting activities, including managing the WIP schedule, sales tax determination, job costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and cost accounting. Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in line with GAAP and company policies. Lead a team comprising the Accounting Manager, Accounting Coordinator, and A/R and A/P administrative staff, fostering a supportive atmosphere with clear roles and responsibilities.
Act as the main liaison with the company's outsourced HR partner to optimize efficiencies, particularly in payroll management. Collaborate with the executive team and project managers to develop and maintain project budgets, closely monitoring costs and expenses to adhere to budgetary limits. Analyze financial data pertaining to construction projects, identifying opportunities for cost savings and operational enhancements.
Prepare precise financial reports for management and stakeholders, offering variance analysis and explanations for budget discrepancies. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies, managing cash flow for both the company and specific construction projects. Anticipate cash requirements and coordinate with the finance team to secure adequate funding.
Review construction-related contracts and agreements for accuracy and compliance, resolving any financial issues in collaboration with legal counsel. Work with external partners such as CPA firms and industry consultants to facilitate the timely issuance of annual financial statements and conduct tax planning. Maintain accurate sales tax compliance across multiple states.
Implement cost control measures to optimize project expenses while maintaining quality standards. Conduct regular cost reviews and audits to identify areas for improvement. Assess financial risks associated with construction projects and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring financial stability.
Collaborate with project stakeholders to achieve goals, effectively communicating financial information to non-financial audiences. Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and best practices in construction accounting and finance. Propose and implement process enhancements to streamline financial operations.
